Show Up is designed to keep your data on your device. The app stores the following information locally using your phone's storage:
Your profile — name, partner's name, pronouns, due date or baby's birth date, pregnancy stage, and whether this is your first pregnancy.
Checklist and tool state — which items you've checked off in the hospital bag, nursery, and baby essentials lists.
Chat history — messages you've sent in the Ask tab and the AI's responses, kept on your device only.
Birth card details — if you've recorded a birth announcement.
None of this information is transmitted to or stored on our servers. It lives on your device and goes with you.
When you send a message in the Ask tab, that message is sent to our server and then forwarded to OpenAI to generate a response.
The Name Generator similarly sends your selected preferences — such as baby gender, name style, length, and vibe — to our server to generate personalised suggestions via OpenAI. No other personal information is included in that request.
We do not log, store, or retain your messages or name preferences on our server. They are sent, the response comes back, and nothing is saved on our end.
OpenAI processes the message in accordance with their own privacy policy (openai.com/policies/privacy-policy). We use their API solely to generate responses — we do not share identifying information about you with OpenAI.
The AI's responses are not medical advice. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider for medical decisions.
We use PostHog, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how people use Show Up so we can make it better.
PostHog collects anonymous usage events — for example, which screens you visit, which tools you open, and when onboarding is completed. These events do not include any personal information, your name, your partner's name, your due date, or any content from your AI chats.
PostHog processes this data in accordance with their privacy policy (posthog.com/privacy). We use their EU-hosted servers, and data is never sold or used for advertising.
We do not use this data to identify you personally — only to understand aggregate patterns that help us improve the app.
We do not sell your data to anyone, ever.
We do not use your data for advertising.
We do not create accounts or track you across sessions.
We do not share your personal information with third parties beyond what is described in the AI Chat and Analytics sections above.
All profile and usage data is stored using your device's local storage (AsyncStorage). This means:
Uninstalling the app will permanently delete all your data. We cannot recover your data if you lose your device or uninstall the app. Your data is not synced across devices. You can clear your data at any time by uninstalling the app.
Show Up is intended for adults (18 years and older). The app is designed for partners of pregnant people and parents in the early stages of parenthood.
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13. If you believe a child has used this app and provided personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes means you accept the updated policy.
We'll only make changes that reflect how the app actually works — we won't quietly expand what we do with your data.
